Adopted!

Sissy went to her new forever home last night. She has a new Greyhound sister, Katie and a Whippet brother, Butch which will be wonderful for her. She does great as a part of a pack. She was already following Katie around the yard and house. She has a new mom, dad and a 6 year old little girl as her new family.

Sissy's new family will just love her as she settles in. I spoke with them this morning and she did fine last night. She was a little hesitant this morning to eat her breakfast, but then she did eat.

I know she will become a much loved family member. I am thrilled for her. I miss her but I know she will have a wonderful life. I wish I had gotten a family photo before I left. I just got caught up in the moment and forgot.

Best of luck Sissy. I will always love you and remember your sweet smiling face. You came to my house so afraid and unsure and left a happy little girl with a bright future ahead of you.

Love,
Your Foster Mom, Kathy

Sweet Sissy

Sissy is blossoming into a sweet and loving Greyhound. She now actively seeks affection from me. She has even started giving me a gentle kiss or two. Initially the kiss was usually on my hand or foot. Just recently, she actually give my face a little kiss. That's a big step for this once shy girl.

She has really integrated well into my pack which I believe will translate well when she goes to her forever home with at least one other dog. She enjoys toys a great deal, but so far has not been destructive with them. She loves to carry them, shake them and hoard them, but so far not tearing them up--except for one ball that had a tear in it already. She decided she would help the originator of the tear :)

She rides will in the car and really seems to enjoy going for rides. She enjoys naps with her buddies. Here she is napping with Chloe (white hound)

Sissy will also sometimes spontaneously sit! It's usually when we are outside in the backyard and she's just relaxing, watching and taking everything in. I keep wanting to get a picture of her sitting, but I never seem to have a camera when she does it.

She's a very polite girl. She responds very well to the word "no" if she's about to do or try something she should not. She's been completely house trained since day one. I don't know what her sign to go out is though because with all of my other dogs, one of them will alert that they need to go out and of course ALL of them proceed to go out as well.

She even let me clip her nails the other day. I just took the tips off since her nails are black. I usually like to use a dremel after I trim the tips. I haven't tried the dremel with her yet. I'm afraid the noise might bother her and I haven' wanted to turn nail trimming into a scary thing at this point. So trimming tips will just have to be done more regularly for awhile.

She LOVES chews: greenies and other US made animal chews for dogs (bully sticks, gullet, beef strap and the like). She's NOT a picky eater at all. So far she has eaten everything I have given her--including banana. A couple of mine won't touch banana with a 10 ft pole. Sissy seemed to really like it. I think it may have been given as a treat when she was at Birmingham.

Oh, I found a video of the one race that Sissy won September 23, 2009. I haven't figured out how to delete the preceding races, but Sissy is in the 6th race ( forward to 4:48). She is in post 3. She had this race all the way. This is the only race she won. I'm glad I have it to be able to share with her forever home someday.

She's a darling little dog. I know sometimes people think Greyhounds are big dogs. Sissy definitely is not. She's a petite greyhound and would definitely be considered a medium sized dog.

Sissy is looking for a special place--her own home and family. If you are looking for a sweet, loving girl and don't mind putting in a little bit of time to win her trust, I promise you will be rewarded 100 times over by this adorable little girl.

Sissy's Social Calendar

Sissy has been so busy lately, we've been negligent in getting a new blog entry done. My, or my, where to begin.

She LOVES to ride in the car. She likes to explore and see new things. She's much more comfortable exploring new places when she has one of her dog buddies with her. She's not keen on going places without a dog pal.

She is really enjoying playing with toys. In fact, she actually played a game of tug with foster sibling, Rio the other evening. They were really cute together. I wish I had gotten a picture. She enjoys picking up toys, throwing them, shaking and squeaking them. She also still like to hoard toys too which is so cute. Sometimes she can't even lay on her bed because of all the toys.

Sissy is really starting to seek out affection. She loves to be petted and have her face rubbed, but she prefers it to be on her terms. She likes to be the one seeking it out. Sissy is the kind of dog who will be happiest when people let HER approach. She's very friendly and loving, but I have found her to be the most comfortable and at ease when the attention and affection was her idea.

Sissy seems to really be enjying her life off the track. Her social calendar has been pretty busy lately.

Recently, Sissy accompanied her foster siblings and attended an agility trial where her foster sister, Rio was competing. She got to attend the birthday party for foster siblings Rio, Chloe and and other family friend (another Chloe) while at the agility trial.

Sissy thought the doggie birthday cake was yummy!

Sissy also had a house full of visitors last week. We had some family in from out of town--5 additional people in the house. Sissy was a trooper. That was a lot of activity and people. She was nervous (who wouldn't be), but she managed. She even snuck in a few friendly sniff of the visitors. She was glad (as were the rest of my pack) to get the house back to ourselves.

Sissy is quite happy hanging out with her foster siblings who have also become her buddies.

Are you and your dog looking for a new family member? Perhaps you and your dog are looking for another dog that like to go for hikes or go for interesting walks in the countryside? Sissy strikes me as a country girl kind of dog. She definitely likes to travel. I haven't had a chance to take her camping, but I honestly think she would enjoy it.

Sissy's Forever Home Wanted Ad

If Sissy could place her own Forever Home Wanted Ad, it would probably go something like this:

Adorable, petite fawn female seeks loving, quiet forever family with other dogs. I am a little shy at first, but warm up to you if you give me time and space. I would thrive in a home with at least one other dog. I do great with cats, but would be happier with dogs to hang out with and play with.

Sissy and her friend Chloe
I love to be in the same room with you and enjoy watching you and being near you. I will come up to you for a pet and some affection, but I am not needy in that department. At night, I prefer to sleep in your bedroom by you on a nice comfy dog bed. I like being near my people and my dog pals.

I am a connoisseur of toys and enjoy collecting them. I'm a happy girl and enjoy good food, wonderful chews and yummy treats. If you are patient with me, I will even take them from your hand.

I'm a quick study. Steps and glass doors were pretty easy for me. Sometimes the TV still fascinates me, but it's getting kind of dull now.

I love going outside for walks or to play. I would simply adore hanging out with my family & pack on a screened in porches. Screened in porches make me feel close to nature but I can lounge on a nice comfy dog bed (they are one of my favorite things as you can tell).

I crate just wonderfully, especially if you give me a yummy kong and I have companions crated near me.

I like to travel and see new things from the confines of a nice safe car or van. In time, with encouragement and my other dog pals, I will love to go for hikes and to new places to explore and have fun. I doubt I'll ever be a big city girl though. Parks and nature are more my style.

Little children make me nervous, but a nice, calm, older child might be just fine. Time and patience are probably my most important requirements after the usual basic necessities. If you give me that, I will give you years of love, joy and companionship.

I'm a fun girl. With each new day, I learn how wonderful home life can be. I can cut up and have fun with the best of them!

Sissy sticking her tongue out!

Easter Blossom

Sissy is starting to enjoy being in a home environment. She seems more comfortable with the household routines. He enjoyed her first Holiday - Easter. She got a yummy beef strap from the Easter bunny which she enjoyed.
Here she and her foster sister, Chloe enjoy their treat while lounging on dog beds.

She kept looking at me as if to ask if it was really for her.
"Really, this is for me?"
Her cute little personality is really starting to shine through. I have discovered she is a toy collector :)

Last night for the first time in the almost 2 weeks she has been in foster with me and my pack, she actually felt comfortable enough to "roach." I could not have been happier!

Sissy will make a sweet companion for someone willing to put in the time and patience to build trust with her. She quite endearing.

Settling & Learning

Sissy is settling into home life and learning what it's like to live in a home. She enjoys the company of her foster siblings. In fact she looks to them for guidance, encouragement and understanding of the household routines and rules.

She is learning patience and manners.

And she's learning how comfy dog beds are!

Sissy is still trying to figure out this new world of hers, filled with strange noises, smells, sights and beings. Sometimes she is a little unsure of something, but she looks to me or her foster sibling to gauge our reactions. When she sees we're fine with whatever it was, she relaxes.

Sissy is a very sweet girl who gaines confidence day by day. She has even started picking up toys. It's a joy to watch her blossom with each new day.

It's a Fawn Convention!

CrazyLittleSis (aka Sis or Sissy) went into foster at my house this past Tuesday. She's a cute little thing. She's even smaller than my Chloe!

She's very nervous but very curious at the same time. She's settling in just fine. She's very comfortable around my pack (male greyhound, Blaze, 2 female greyhounds, Cori & Chloe and female lab mix, Rio). In fact, when something concerns or startles her, she watches them to gauge their reaction which helps her settle.

She loves to go out and explore the backyard. She also LOVES my screened in front porch. She was out there napping earlier today.

She and 2 of my greyhounds were out on the porch watching and listening for activity outside. The picture looks like a convention of the "fawns." They look so cute together!

Just like Chloe originally had, Sissy has gravitated to my sweet, Rio. Rio is a calm, relaxed, submissive, balanced and friendly female lab mix. The shyer dogs really seem to enjoy being around her.

Sissy likes to be near me and watches me a lot, but I pretty much ignore her unless she comes up to me for attention. Then I pet her and give her some attention.

With some time and patience, Sissy will end up being a wonderful companion. I do think she will probably bo best in a family with other dogs because she really seems to like to be part of a pack where she can flourish.
